Upkar Arora is CEO of Purpose Capital, an impact investment advisory firm that mobilizes capital to accelerate social progress. Through the company, Upkar leverages his business expertise to solve complex social and environmental issues and grow impact investments.
For thirty years, Upkar has worked in a number of senior roles with some of Canada’s most successful start-ups. Prior to Purpose Capital, he founded and led Illumina Partners, a boutique advisory firm that specializes in strategy, operations, mergers and acquisitions and finance. Having also operated in the United States, Mexico and Europe, Upkar has completed more than $20 billion of mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, dispositions and financings. As an entrepreneur and business owner, he has advised organizations large and small across sectors.
Upkar is an FCPA, FCA and holds the ICD.D Designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. As an adjunct lecturer, he teaches “Success Beyond the Classroom: Conversations and Perspectives,” a course he created in 2014.
Currently, Upkar serves on the boards of several organizations including Metrolinx, the Institute for Canadian Citizenship and Why Not Theatre.
